Renie Thomas has evolved into a naturalist, ever since he has been exposed to the natural world. For him, the natural world has been an open-air laboratory of constant learning and aims at providing ecohydrogeological solutions based on sound understanding of the dynamic environment.
He is a professional Ecohydrogeologist, and possesses hands-on experience in the field of water, hard rock study and natural resource management. He has been providing consultancy to various international and national think-tanks, multinational companies, resort and individual landowners and grassroot organizations with applied research, implementation guidance and policy advocacy for the past 13 years.
He is a passionate researcher and works at the intersection of Groundwater Dependent Ecosystems (GDE), Indigenous (native) & farming communities and Geo-cognitive mental models to address water security & related risks. His aim has always been to deconstruct science & bridge gaps that exist between field realties and policy for effective management of the common pool resource. His overall goal continues to be – to work with less privileged communities and work towards using his research rigour to help people take ecologically sound paths in restoring their ecosystems.
He is reflective practitioner, a four dimensional thinker and passionate about freshwater ecosystem conservation. His main research interest lies in hydrogeology, ecology and freshwater ecosystem health, stable isotopes, geo-cognition, geological hazards and physical volcanology.
Although, he has completed his Masters in Geology, and diploma in Sustainable Management of Natural Resources & Nature Conservation, he continues to learn and explore as a student of the subject and other allied natural & social science domains. He is keen on working on challenging research projects that will help in restoration of the landscape, bring in innovation and add value to the traditional and conventional knowledge systems.
He is an ardent trekker, adventurer, biker, cycling enthusiast, amateur photographer and loves – birds, natural springs and volcanoes.
